Setting your Rank Tracker crawl window to your business opening hours

You may have heard that when your business is closed, Google tends to rank it lower than businesses that are open. There is certainly some truth to this statement, Google has confirmed that opening hours are a factor that they consider when ranking a business - but not the only factor!

Some clients want to track their business during opening hours, because that's the time that many of their customers will be searching for their business. However, some industries where many of their leads may come in overnight, may actually benefit from tracking rankings when their business is closed to more closely represent what a potential customer is likely to see.

To support this, Rank Tracker has a crawl window functionality.

Note: Crawl Windows do not automatically update based on Daylight Saving Time - we recommend setting your crawl window to the middle of your business opening hours, so that DST won't affect the outcome, or remember to update your crawl window twice a year based on DST in your jurisdiction.

How to set a crawl window

In your edit campaign view, simply navigate to the crawl window section, and select the hour you would like your three hour crawl window to begin.

Note: Times are defined in UTC. The current time in UTC is displayed beneath the crawl window dropdown selector.

How crawl windows work

When defining a crawl window, you're selecting the first hour of a three hour window in which you would prefer crawls to be retrieved. Rank Tracker may retrieve the data anywhere inside this three-hour window.

We recommend setting the window to roughly the middle of your opening hours if you want to track when your business is open.
