The Whitespark Local Platform can monitor your Google Business Profiles for updates, and help you approve or reject them easily!

Every location that has GBP Management turned on is continually monitored for updates to their business info. You can review and approve/reject your GBP updates by viewing the GBP updates screen in the Local Platform.

By default, you will be notified by email whenever a monitored Google Business Profile is updated. Your email notifications are also fully configurable, so you can tune your notifications to work best for you. Customize these notifications to best suit your use case and to get the most out of the tool!

Please note: If a new update occurs while you’re on the GBP updates screen, you’ll be alerted on-screen immediately (so you don’t need to worry about continuously refreshing the page to see new updates).

The updates screen

The GBP updates screen is split into two panels. On the left is your list of pending updates. Clicking on any update will provide additional details about the update in the right side panel.

Below is a screenshot labelling the key functions/features of the updates screen, and a brief description of each.

Left panel (pending updates)

1. Location switcher

If you have multiple locations in the Local Platform, select one or several locations here to filter which updates you see.

2. Update source

There are two different types of GBP updates — updates performed automatically by Google, and updates performed manually by an owner/manager of the listing.

By default you’ll see all updates, regardless of their source. You can filter this list to see only updates from a specific source by selecting it here.

3. Field filter

By default you’ll see updates for all fields. Use this filter to view updates for a specific field (or combination of fields).

4. Bulk actions

Currently, the only supported bulk action is “Reject all”.

When you perform a bulk action, it is applied to all the updates matching your current filter parameters (location, source, and fields). So if you wanted to reject all the updates to phone numbers and business names that were made automatically by Google, you would set those filters (using the above functions), then open the bulk actions menu and click Reject all.

When you perform a bulk action, you’ll get a confirmation dialog summarizing the action you’re about to take.

5. Updated field & affected location

Each update will tell you which field was updated, and which location was affected.

6. Update preview

This lets you preview the contents of the update (see the right panel for full details).

Every update has either had something changed, added, removed, or a combination of the three. These different types of change are demonstrated with colour-coded tags:

  • Blue tags indicate a change

  • Green tags indicate an addition

  • Red tags indicate a removal

Please note that this is only a preview, and if there are numerous changes in a given update (or the update content is very long), the update details may be truncated. Always be sure to view the full content of the update in the right panel before accepting.

7. Update source indicator

Each update has an icon indicating whether it was initiated by Google (G icon) or an owner/manager (cowboy icon, yeehaw).

8. Notification settings

Click here to configure account-level settings for your email notifications.

9. Archived updates

Click here to view updates that have already been accepted or rejected.

Right panel (update details)

10. Update field & location

As in the left panel, here we indicate which field and location were affected by the update.

11. Update details

Here you can see the full content of the update.

12. Currently in local platform

This shows how the field is currently configured in Local Platform (i.e. before the GBP update).

13. Preview changes

This shows how the field will look in Local Platform if the update were to be accepted.

14. Accept/reject update

Use one of these buttons to action the selected update.

Accepting will leave the update in place on your GBP and update your location in Local Platform to match.

Rejecting will overwrite the field on your GBP with the current value in Local Platform.

Either action will trigger a confirmation dialog. Once you confirm your choice, the next update on the pending updates list will be automatically selected to help you quickly review and process your remaining updates.

🤠 Giddy up!
