Some keywords can trigger the Vacation Rentals mode in Google Maps. This is a special search mode that’s different from regular Google Maps results.

In Vacation Rentals mode, Google doesn’t just show Google Business Profiles (GBPs). Instead, it partners with third-party providers, like online travel agencies (OTAs), to display rental listings.

Local Ranking Grids is designed to monitor rankings based on Google Business Profiles. Since Vacation Rentals mode is an aggregator of partner listings, not a direct listing platform, keywords that trigger this mode can’t be tracked in our tool.

What are some common keywords that trigger this mode?

Here are some common keywords that activate Vacation Rentals mode.

  1. vacation rentals

  2. cabin rentals

  3. cottages

  4. chalets

  5. short term rentals

  6. holiday rentals

How can I tell if my keyword will trigger this mode?

You can check whether your keyword activates this mode by searching for it in Google Maps.

If you see results like the screenshot below (ie. with the “Vacation rentals” pill selected in the top-left corner) then your keyword triggers Vacation Rentals mode and won’t return results in Local Ranking Grids.
